DIPLOMA IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT

INTRODUCTION

This course aims to provide basic knowledge of International scheduled International Air transport services, fare structures and ticketing procedures, travel & tour operation, wildlife and environment management and also hospitality industry and services.

 

General Objectives

 

By the end of this module the trainee should be able to:-

 

1. Appreciate tourism as a social economic activity

2. Appreciate the dynamism of tourism

3. Appreciate the various components of the tourism industry

4. Apply the knowledge and skills to develop and promote tourism products

5. Apply managerial concepts in tourism

6. Understand the role of information and communication technology in tourism sustainability

7. Appreciate the effective use of a foreign language as a means of tourism promotion

8. Demonstrate effective communication skills

9. Apply strategies for conservation of tourism resources

10. Appreciate self-employment as an alternative to salaried employment

Assessment

The programme is continuously assessed with final exams by the Institute, KNEC

 

Recommended Candidates

High school mean grade C- (Minus) for diploma and D-(Minus) for certificate levels.

Students with lower KCSE grades can also be admitted after successfully passing the Institute’s aptitude test.

Examining Body

Internally and externally examined by KNEC.

 

Achievements at the end of the course

 

Institutes Diploma and one of the following qualifications:

• KNEC certificate

• ICM (UK) -

• ABE

• City and Guild International (UK) certificate
